Biography
As a child, Meike dreamed of a career as a novelist. She has since put down her pen, but she still tells stories through another medium: that of vocal music. Consequently, she has a great fondness for the theatrical repertoire.
Meike's operatic roles include Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore with La Mascotte, Suora Infermiera in Puccini's Suor Angelica with production house Nootstroom, Tamiri in an adaptation of Mozart's Il Re Pastore with Domestica Rotterdam and Geraldine in Barber's A Hand of Bridge during the Opera aan Zee festival. At the Grachtenfestival 2022, she performed in the production We Two by Opera op Zak, a double bill consisting of The Telephone by Menotti and Four Dialogues by Ned Rorem.
In addition, Meike creates music theatre performances with her ensemble Trio Ridente in based around classical art song. Their production Lied zonder Woorden has been performed at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam and the Peter de Grote Festival (now the Aurora Festival) in Groningen, among others.
Meike is also regularly performs as an oratorio soloist. She has collaborated with ensembles such as the Nationaal Symfonisch Kamerorkest (NASKA), Kamerorkest van het Noorden, and het Sallands Bachkoor. A personal highlight was the soprano solo in a chamber music version of Mahler's 4th Symphony with Kamerorkest van het Noorden. Furthermore, her repertoire includes Bach's St John and St Matthew Passions , Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat , Pergolesi's Stabat Mater , Handel's Messiah, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle , and the Requiems by Mozart and Fauré.
Over the past few years, Meike has developed a great passion for choral singing. She sings as a freelancer with the Groot Omroepkoor and Consensus Vocalis, among others.
Meike began her vocal studies with Hanneke de Wit at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen. She continued her studies with Henk Neven at Codarts Rotterdam.
